Technical Applications Lead (Financial Services)

About the role

The financial services firm is seeking a Technical Applications Lead to oversee a critical portfolio of business applications. The role blends application delivery, production support, service governance and long‑term ownership, without requiring day‑to‑day coding. You will guide internal teams and external partners to ensure reliable, fit‑for‑change solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the team responsible for keeping core business applications reliable, supported and adaptable.
• Own the application portfolio, set direction on enhancement, modernisation, replacement or external sourcing, and shape the roadmap with the business.
• Guide sound development practices, structured delivery and sensible technical decisions.
• Oversee enhancement work and day‑to‑day production support across in‑house and outsourced resources.
• Take ownership of major incidents, recurring problems, root‑cause analysis and corrective actions.
• Ensure application service quality, performance, resilience and continuous improvement.
• Translate operational needs from business users into workable application solutions.
• Coordinate external developers, vendors and support resources to guarantee delivery quality and accountability.

Required profile

• Proven experience leading an applications or software team in a technical management capacity.
• Solid development background, even if not coding daily.
• Strong understanding of software engineering principles, change delivery and production support.
• Experience managing live application environments, including incident, problem, release and change governance.
• Demonstrated ability to lead major incidents, root‑cause analysis and follow‑through on corrective actions.
• Comfort with owning a broad application portfolio rather than a single product.
• Experience contributing to application roadmaps, sourcing, modernisation and build‑versus‑buy decisions.
• Financial services experience required; securities, brokerage or capital markets technology strongly preferred.
