Technical Specialist (12-Hour Rotational Shift)

About the role

Becton, Dickinson and Company (BD), a global medical technology company, is hiring a Technical Specialist at its Tuas plant in Singapore. The role covers operating machines, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting and supporting continuous improvement on a high-volume production line. The work is in a control room environment on a rotational 12-hour day shift (7am to 7pm or 7pm to 7am, 3/4/4/3 pattern), with overtime and possible day/night shift changes.

Key responsibilities

• Operate machines to meet production output, quality and waste targets.
• Perform preventive maintenance (cleaning, servicing, replacing parts).
• Troubleshoot machine and tool failures to meet production, safety and quality standards.
• Carry out product and machine changeovers via tool/die change and machine set-up.
• Initiate, implement and follow up on machine enhancements and projects.
• Write standard work instructions and procedures, and implement corrective and preventive actions.
• Train and coach technicians and new hires on machine operation and adjustment.
• Assist engineers or subject matter experts on continuous improvement activities.
• Contribute to department goals such as Kaizen submissions, team building and safety kaizens, and take part in shift-changeover meetings and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Follow the BD Code of Ethics, SOPs and standard work instructions, and observe Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) rules.
• Report quality and safety incidents, near misses and non-conformances, and take part in investigations when required.
• Observe safety and environmental rules (ISO 14001) and participate in hazard prevention and recycling activities.

Required profile

• Diploma in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering.
• Supervisory and leadership experience.
• 3 to 5 years of relevant experience on a high-volume manufacturing production line.
• Experience supervising a manufacturing facility.
• Self-motivated, able to work independently and in a team, with good communication and people skills.
• Willingness to work overtime and to move between day and night shifts if production needs change.

Required skills

• Knowledge of general maintenance processes and methods.
• Ability to liaise with other departments and apply GMP and ISO 14001 principles.
