Technical Superintendent – Tanker Operations

About the role

The Technical Superintendent will lead the day‑to‑day technical management of a fleet of tankers, ensuring compliance with all regulatory and company standards. This senior position reports to senior management and works closely with vessel masters, chief engineers and external service providers.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee technical performance, maintenance schedules, repairs and dry‑docking activities for assigned tankers.
• Ensure vessels meet international maritime regulations, class requirements, flag‑state rules and company safety standards.
• Prepare and manage technical budgets, repair costs and maintenance expenditures.
• Plan and supervise dry‑dockings, major repairs, inspections and retrofit projects.
• Provide technical support and guidance to vessel masters and chief engineers.
• Monitor implementation of the Planned Maintenance System (PMS) onboard vessels.
• Liaise with shipyards, contractors, suppliers and service providers on technical matters.
• Attend vessels for inspections, audits, troubleshooting and emergency situations as required.
• Support vetting, SIRE, PSC and other statutory inspections.
• Maintain technical documentation, certificates and records, and participate in incident investigations.

Required profile

• Chief Engineer Certificate of Competency (Class 1) or a degree/diploma in Marine Engineering.
• 3–5 years of experience as a Technical Superintendent managing tankers.
• Previous sailing experience as a Chief Engineer on tankers is an advantage.
• Strong knowledge of tanker operations, marine engineering systems and international maritime regulations.
• Familiarity with SIRE, CDI, PSC, ISM, ISPS and MARPOL requirements.
• Experience in dry‑docking, budgeting and technical procurement.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
• Experience with vessel management systems.
