Underwriter - Political Violence

About the role

MS Amlin is hiring a full-time, permanent Underwriter for its Political Violence line in Singapore. The Underwriter is a key member of the underwriting team with the authority to make sound underwriting decisions, build new business and grow the business profitably while minimising loss exposure.

Key responsibilities

• Analyse and write risks according to agreed parameters, making sound, profitable long-term decisions
• Negotiate insurance in line with corporate standards
• Build and maintain relationships with existing and new clients and brokers
• Manage the business written across the department so it complies with risk, regulatory and legal requirements
• Analyse the portfolio to identify opportunities, products and clients
• Ensure regional compliance with underwriting management and controls, acting within agreed authorities
• Represent the class in external activities, groups and committees
• Monitor underwriting figures regularly to spot unusual trends or adverse movements
• Work with other teams in the Insurance division as a peer reviewer

Required profile

• Good knowledge and experience of underwriting expertise in the Political Violence market
• Ability to influence and negotiate effectively
• Excellent communication skills
• Sound financial and commercial acumen
• Keen learner working towards CII accreditation
• Strong problem-solving ability
