Vice President, Legal Counsel - Markets (APAC)

About the role

State Street Markets is looking for an experienced lawyer to join its APAC Markets Legal team in Singapore. The role offers hands-on exposure to a broad range of Markets products across APAC, working closely with trading, sales and regional stakeholders as a trusted legal advisor on live transactions, regulatory changes and new product initiatives. Reporting to the Head of Legal for Markets, APAC, you will work in a collaborative regional and international legal team.

Key responsibilities

• Advise the Markets business across Asia Pacific on applicable financial and banking regulations and related regulatory developments
• Take a lead role on transactions and initiatives within the Markets business, with supervision and escalation as required
• Draft and negotiate Markets documentation, including FX and derivatives, securities lending, cleared and uncleared repo agreements, brokerage and trading platform agreements and other transactional agreements
• Support cross-border transactions and regulatory-driven initiatives across multiple APAC jurisdictions, balancing legal risk with business objectives
• Advise on product development and jurisdictional expansion initiatives
• Collaborate with Markets Legal colleagues across APAC, the US and EMEA, as well as Risk, Compliance and Tax
• Develop and maintain legal templates and internal guidelines

Required profile

• Qualified lawyer admitted in a common law jurisdiction (e.g. Hong Kong, UK, US or equivalent)
• Typically 5+ years of relevant legal experience in a leading law firm and/or in-house financial services team; prior in-house experience is advantageous
• Fluency in a second language is helpful but not required

Required skills

• Strong drafting and negotiation experience with financial markets documentation
• Solid understanding of financial and banking regulatory frameworks
• Exposure to multiple APAC jurisdictions and their regulatory considerations
• Commercial, solutions-oriented mindset, stakeholder management and communication skills
