Abatement Systems Engineer

About the role

Applied Materials seeks an experienced Abatement Systems Engineer to own the operational health and reliability of abatement systems supporting semiconductor process equipment. You will develop maintenance strategies, drive reliability improvements, and ensure compliance with safety and environmental regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Own operational health and reliability of all abatement systems, including Burn‑Wet, Plasma, and Point‑of‑Use systems.
• Develop and execute preventive maintenance strategies and maintain system documentation, operating procedures, and maintenance records.
• Diagnose mechanical, electrical, process, and controls‑related failures and coordinate repairs with OEMs and external suppliers.
• Lead root‑cause investigations for recurring failures and ensure compliance with EHS regulations.
• Validate exhaust flow requirements, support new tool installations, and maintain emergency response procedures for abatement‑related incidents.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Chemical, Environmental, Electrical, Instrumentation, or Mechatronics Engineering.
• 5‑10 years of experience in semiconductor manufacturing, R&D labs, or facilities engineering.

Required skills

• Experience with Burn‑Wet Abatement and Plasma Abatement Systems.
• Knowledge of utility systems such as vacuum, exhaust, cooling water, chemical delivery, PLC, SCADA, and sensors.
• Understanding of semiconductor processes that generate exhaust emissions (CVD, PVD, Etch, etc.).
