Job description
About the role
The Asian School of the Environment (ASE) at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, in collaboration with CoHASS, is inviting applications for an Adjunct Associate Professor. The appointee will design and deliver an interdisciplinary undergraduate elective using wine as an integrative case study to show the links between Earth systems, agriculture and viticulture, human society, history, culture and commerce. Students come from across NTU's colleges, including CoS, CoHASS and NBS, and the appointee will also contribute to executive education and outreach to non-specialist audiences.
Key responsibilities
- Design and deliver an interdisciplinary undergraduate elective covering environmental science, climate change, land use, cultural geography, economics and society, using viticulture and the global wine industry as a sustained case study.
- Develop curriculum and teaching materials that make ASE research (climate variability, soil science, landscape change, natural hazards) accessible to students from diverse backgrounds.
- Draw on CoHASS disciplines such as cultural geography, history, anthropology and the social study of food and consumption to use wine as a lens on human societies.
- Contribute to executive education programmes on environmental change, land use, culture and fine wine, focused on the Asia-Pacific region.
- Support engagement with external stakeholders, including prospective donors and industry partners, through events, masterclasses and dinners.
- Collaborate with faculty across ASE, CoHASS, NBS and other NTU schools to strengthen interdisciplinary programming.
Required profile
- Bachelor's degree in a discipline relevant to ASE or CoHASS, with significant professional experience in the wine industry and advanced expertise at a senior level; a recognised international industry credential (e.g. Master of Wine) or equivalent standing.
- At least 15 years of professional experience across the commercial, communications and educational sides of the wine industry, including substantial Asia-Pacific market experience.
- Proven track record as a wine educator, having designed and delivered formal accredited courses (e.g. WSET Level 3+ or equivalent).
- Experience as a communicator and writer for specialist and non-specialist audiences, with a published portfolio of articles, reports or books.
- Proven experience designing and hosting high-level events, masterclasses and educational programmes for senior professional and membership audiences.
- Established professional network in the regional and international wine industry, with ties to wine-producing regions and industry bodies across Asia, Australasia and Europe.
- Preferred: published books or research, experience in academic or research institutions, experience in key Asian wine markets (Singapore, Hong Kong, Japan, Greater China), and experience translating complex scientific content for lay audiences.
Applications include a cover letter, full CV with evidence of teaching and publications, and writing samples. Applications are kept confidential and reviewed starting 31 July 2026.
