Assistant Engineer / Senior Assistant Engineer (Shift Operations)

About the role

Choa Chu Kang Waterworks is hiring an Assistant Engineer or Senior Assistant Engineer for shift operations. You will operate the water treatment plant and its equipment to produce potable water at the prescribed quantity and quality, in line with WHO, USEPA and EPH guidelines.

Key responsibilities

• Operate water treatment plant and equipment to meet prescribed quantity and quality, and respond promptly to alarms, equipment faults and process deviations.
• Carry out water sampling and laboratory tests to keep water quality within control limits and regulatory standards.
• Follow SOPs, WSH regulations and Permit-to-Work systems, and take part in emergency response drills and safety improvements.
• Supervise contractor work on site for safety, quality and contractual compliance.
• Work with fellow shift operators, day workers and other plant teams for smooth handovers and issue resolution.
• Maintain accurate operational logs and records, and help improve processes and review SOPs and work instructions.

Required profile

• Diploma in Engineering (Chemical, Environmental, Mechanical, Electrical or related).
• Able to work rotating shifts (7am-3pm, 3pm-11pm, 11pm-7am).
• Experience in water treatment, utilities or process plant operations is an advantage; candidates with more relevant experience may be considered for Senior Assistant Engineer.
• Relevant operational licences or certifications (e.g. boiler operator, water treatment) and familiarity with SCADA are advantages.

Required skills

• Technical knowledge of water treatment processes or related engineering disciplines.
• Hands-on operational competence with plant equipment and systems.
• Good observation, problem-solving, communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Working knowledge of WSH regulations and a safety-conscious approach.
• Adaptable across shift hours, tech-savvy with an interest in digitalisation, process automation or data-driven operations.
