Senior Engineer - Additive Manufacturing (2-Year Contract)

About the role

A two-year contract position for a Senior/Engineer in Additive Manufacturing within the School of Engineering. The role covers designing and developing engineering solutions, especially in additive manufacturing, and involves mentoring students and contributing to research and development.

Key responsibilities

• Use CAD software such as Creo, SolidWorks and Siemens NX to design, optimise and conceptualise components and systems that meet performance, quality, manufacturability and cost objectives.
• Develop engineering solutions for projects, particularly in additive manufacturing, meeting project requirements and timelines.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including scientists, engineers and procurement stakeholders across centres.
• Provide technical guidance and knowledge sharing to junior engineers, researchers and students, and supervise and mentor students on R&D projects.
• Evaluate emerging design methodologies, materials and manufacturing technologies, and support prototyping, testing, validation and design optimisation.
• Contribute to grant applications, research proposals, consultancy projects and industry-funded initiatives, and engage with industry partners on technology transfer and collaboration.
• Ensure compliance with engineering standards, safety requirements, quality systems and regulatory guidelines, and prepare technical reports, documentation and presentations.

Required profile

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Product Design or a related discipline.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in engineering design, product development or advanced manufacturing.
• Strong knowledge and practical experience of Design for Additive Manufacturing (DfAM); AM experience is an advantage.
• Ability to manage projects independently and work with multidisciplinary teams; supervising students is an advantage.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Creo, SolidWorks, Siemens NX or equivalent CAD tools.
• Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Effective written and verbal communication, including technical documentation and presentations.
