Assistant/Associate Professor in Malay Literature & Education

About the role

The National Institute of Education (NIE) at Nanyang Technological University invites applications for a faculty position at the Assistant Professor or Associate Professor level within the Malay Literature and Literature Education division of the Department of Asian Languages & Cultures (ALC). The role involves teaching, research and service to support the training of Malay language teachers in Singapore.

Key responsibilities

• Lead or collaborate on funded research projects and maintain a strong research and publication record.
• Teach undergraduate and graduate courses, including supervision of student research projects.
• Supervise and mentor undergraduate student teachers during their school teaching practice.
• Build connections with local and global professional communities.
• Undertake administrative duties as required by the service.
• Offer professional services to schools, the Ministry of Education and other education‑related organisations on request.
• For Associate Professors: mentor junior faculty and serve on NIE/NTU committees.

Required profile

• Doctoral degree in Malay Literature (modern/traditional) or comparative literature.
• Strong interest in Jawi literacy and extensive research experience in the field.
• Highly proficient in reading and writing modern and classical Jawi texts.
• Native or near‑native competence in oral and written Malay and English.
• Demonstrated ability to teach effectively at undergraduate and graduate levels.
• Knowledge of the Singapore curriculum and education system.
• A degree or diploma in education is preferred.
