Backend Engineer / Senior Backend Engineer (Java)

About the role

Patsnap, a global pre-IPO company building an AI-powered platform for intellectual property and research and development collaboration, is hiring a Backend Engineer or Senior Backend Engineer in its Singapore office. The role builds and evolves the high-performance, scalable systems behind its products, primarily in Java, with ownership of critical backend services and complex engineering challenges.

This is an in-office position. The candidate will own projects from design through to production, working closely with Product, Frontend, DevOps and other engineering teams, and will also help shape technical decisions and engineering standards.

Key responsibilities

• Architect, design and implement robust backend solutions in Java for new features and products.
• Own end-to-end projects, from requirements gathering to production deployment, with minimal supervision.
• Optimize performance and scalability: review code, optimize databases and tune microservices under high traffic.
• Establish and enforce coding standards, testing strategies and documentation.
• Share knowledge on Java best practices and foster continuous improvement.
• Work with product managers, frontend engineers and DevOps to deliver releases on schedule.
• Troubleshoot and debug production issues, implement long-term fixes and prevent downtime or regressions.

Required profile

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related field.
• 3+ years of professional experience in Java backend development.
• Demonstrated ability to lead projects independently from concept to deployment.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot complex systems in production.

Required skills

• Strong understanding of Spring/Spring Boot, RESTful API design and microservices architecture.
• Proficiency with SQL/NoSQL databases and knowledge of database performance optimization.
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and containerization tools such as Docker and Kubernetes.
