Buyer II – Sourcing Specialist (Manufacturing)

About the role

Thermo Fisher Scientific is seeking a Buyer II / Sourcing Specialist II to ensure the seamless supply of critical materials for our global manufacturing operations. You will work closely with cross‑functional teams to maintain inventory levels, drive cost savings, and support continuous improvement initiatives.

Key responsibilities

• Manage supplier relationships and negotiate contracts to achieve cost optimization.
• Ensure timely delivery of materials and maintain optimal inventory levels.
• Collaborate with Manufacturing, Quality, Engineering, and Finance teams to support operational excellence.
• Source alternative options for end‑of‑life (EOL) items or items affecting supply continuity.
• Travel occasionally to supplier sites as needed.

Required profile

• Advanced degree with no prior experience, or Bachelor’s degree plus 2 years procurement/buying experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Preferred fields of study: Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Operations, Engineering or related.
• Relevant certifications (APICS, CPIM, CSCP, CIPS) are a plus.
• Experience with EE and EM components / PCBA preferred.
• Strong analytical, negotiation and problem‑solving abilities.

Required skills

• Proficiency with ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, JD Edwards).
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
• Experience with MRP, inventory management and supplier relationship management.
• Data analysis and actionable insight development.
• Knowledge of Lean and Six Sigma continuous‑improvement methodologies.
