Coatings Chemist

About the role

Evonik is looking for a Chemist to carry out R&D projects in the area of Coatings for various applications. The role involves formulating, developing and designing new or improved functional coatings, running lab research and collaborating with the team and other departments.

Key responsibilities

• Execute R&D projects in the area of Coatings for various applications
• Collaborate within the team and with other departments on research projects
• Develop, formulate and design new or improved functional coatings according to business needs
• Carry out lab research within project timelines with good quality outcomes
• Manage and organise a dedicated lab room to ensure EHSQ compliance and work efficiency
• Plan experiments and activities, including exploratory ones
• Conduct basic literature and patent searches for assigned projects
• Formulate, apply and characterise materials for coating experiments
• Document results and prepare technical reports using Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and an electronic lab notebook, with AI tools where appropriate
• Develop or revise test methods, processes or procedures
• Liaise with external and internal partners
• Supervise interns and plan their work

Required profile

• Bachelor of Science in Chemistry, Polymer Science, Material Science or a related subject
• Minimum 3 years of working experience in a coatings-related area, including coating formulation, application and testing
• Ability to plan and work independently, organising data and analysing results
• Strong laboratory technical skills, particularly in coating formulation, application, testing, analysis and characterisation
• Project management and strong project execution skills
• Good communication, presentation and interpersonal skills, with a leadership or coordination role on projects
