Data Centre Operator (L1 Application Monitoring)

About the role

The Data Centre Operator will work within BCS's Technology Division to ensure the stability and reliability of critical banking applications. Operating the Network Operations Centre (NOC), the role involves continuous monitoring, incident handling and on‑site support for data‑centre infrastructure.

Key responsibilities

• Perform hourly service and system health checks across all monitored applications.
• Provide on‑site support at external data‑centre locations when required.
• Conduct first‑level reviews of application batch logs to identify and flag errors.
• Monitor system status using the Central Monitoring System and application logs.
• Escalate hardware or suspected hardware issues by raising incident tickets.
• Assist Level‑2 teams with business‑critical incidents and requirements.
• Execute documented batch and operational tasks, including routine batch runs, weekend system tests and User Acceptance Tests (UAT).

Required profile

• Diploma in Information Technology or a related field.
• Minimum of 3 years’ experience in data‑centre operations.
• Willingness to work rotating 24/7 shifts.
• Strong interpersonal skills and a collaborative team spirit.

Required skills

• Proficiency with MS Office applications.
• Operating system knowledge: Windows and Linux.
