Department Manager – Asian Languages & Cultures

About the role

The National Institute of Education (NIE) is seeking a proactive Manager for its Asian Languages & Cultures (ALC) Department. You will support the Head of ALC and senior management in delivering high‑quality teacher education and research programmes.

Key responsibilities

• Provide secretarial and administrative support to the Head of ALC and the Senior Management Committee.
• Coordinate faculty recruitment, contract renewals, promotion, tenure processes and year‑end reviews.
• Supervise three MSOs, overseeing their daily work and performance.
• Manage departmental finances, including budget preparation, financial reporting, purchase approvals and claim processing.
• Oversee part‑time lecturer claims, examination logistics, student travel tracking and academic workload systems.
• Serve as the department’s PDPA Champion and support major events such as the Teachers’ Investiture Ceremony and NTU Convocation.
• Identify and implement process‑improvement initiatives and handle ad‑hoc duties as assigned.

Required profile

• A university degree, preferably in Business Studies.
• 3–5 years of relevant experience with some supervisory responsibility.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• High attention to detail, strong organisational abilities and the capacity to work independently under pressure.
• Adaptability to change and a collaborative team mindset.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Word.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
