Deputy Director, Finance - Partners Division

About the role

The Deputy Director, Finance leads and manages a team within the Partners Division, guiding and mentoring staff to achieve financial and budgetary objectives. The role also involves developing financial control policies, managing financial reporting and budgets, and supporting digital transformation initiatives for finance.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and manage a team, giving guidance and mentorship to ensure optimal performance and achievement of financial and budgetary objectives.
• Develop and implement sound financial and budgetary control policies to promote financial prudence and ensure compliance with government financial policies and procedures.
• Manage the preparation, analysis and compliance of financial reports, forecasts and budgets, in line with policies and regulatory requirements.
• Participate in or lead initiatives for system testing, enhancements or integration, strengthening of internal controls and process improvements.
• Monitor team performance, give regular feedback and conduct performance appraisals.
• Collaborate with other teams and departments to align budgetary objectives, including household operations and process controls.
• Lead or co-lead projects supporting the Whole-of-Government digital transformation roadmap for finance.

Required profile

• Proven leadership experience in financial management or budgeting roles, including leading or supervising a team.
• Experience in business transformation initiatives and their impact on financial planning and management.
• Ability to work under pressure, manage multiple priorities and respond to change; candidates needing work pass sponsorship should not apply.

Required skills

• Strong knowledge of financial principles, budgeting processes and financial analysis techniques.
• Excellent communication skills, able to explain complex financial concepts to non-financial stakeholders.
• Advanced proficiency in financial software, spreadsheet applications and data management systems.
• Analytical and problem-solving abilities, with attention to detail and expertise in data analytics and visualisation.
• Experience in governance and risk management within a financial context.
