Deputy Principal Engineer / Principal Engineer, Carbon Planning Division

About the role

The National Environment Agency (NEA) administers Singapore's carbon tax regime under the Carbon Pricing Act, develops eligibility criteria under the International Carbon Credit (ICC) Framework and compiles Singapore's greenhouse gas inventory. The Carbon Planning Division develops strategies and initiatives for the ICC framework, supports cross-border carbon capture and storage (CCS) projects and advances the international acceptance of new mitigation measures. This role leads a team driving the division's strategic priorities.

Key responsibilities

• Develop policies and implementation approaches for CCS and emerging mitigation measures
• Drive the development, review and operationalisation of Singapore's ICC Framework
• Build organisational capability in carbon crediting methodologies, CCS and emerging mitigation measures
• Build, maintain and influence international and regional networks to advance Singapore's interests
• Lead division-wide strategic and operational initiatives

Required profile

• At least 9 years of work experience in the climate change or sustainability field, in the public or private sector
• Degree in Chemical, Environmental Engineering or equivalent, with relevant experience in carbon markets
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, interpersonal, organisational and communication skills
• Resourceful, meticulous, self-driven, able to work independently and in a team, and quick to learn
• Able to manage multiple priorities and stakeholders in a fast-paced, volatile environment
• Willing to travel overseas for international and regional meetings
