Senior Scientific Officer (Ionising Radiation Control)

About the role

The Radiation Protection and Nuclear Science Group in NEA is Singapore's national authority for radiation protection, safeguarding the public, radiation workers and the environment. Its Regulation Division administers and enforces the Radiation Protection Act and Regulations through licensing, inspection and enforcement. As a Senior Scientific Officer of the Ionising Radiation Control Department, you will enforce radiation safety regulations and advance Singapore's radiation protection framework.

Key responsibilities

• Administer the Radiation Protection Act and its Regulations, and ensure regulatory compliance across all radiation users
• Set regulatory requirements and guidelines for licensee emergency preparedness and response (EPR) plans, and review them for compliance and adequacy
• Review and enhance the regulatory regime by benchmarking against international best practice
• Evaluate radiation protection, security, transport and radioactive waste management plans for compliance
• Develop regulatory policies, guidance and technical documents for the safe and secure use of radiation in industrial and medical facilities
• Conduct site inspections, investigate regulatory issues and give technical advice on radiation protection
• Work with industry stakeholders, international organisations, consultants and local and foreign government agencies

Required profile

• Degree in Physics or a radiation-related discipline
• At least 5 years of relevant experience in ionising radiation, radiation protection or EPR
• Knowledge of legal and regulatory matters is an advantage
