Deputy/Assistant Director, Financial Advisers Supervision (Contract)

About the role

The Financial Advisers Supervision Department (FAS) admits and supervises financial advisory intermediaries, including banks and insurers providing financial advisory services and insurance brokers. It administers rules and regulations under the Financial Advisers Act and the Insurance Act to uphold market conduct standards. This is a 1-year contract position within a team supervising financial institutions carrying out financial advisory and insurance broking activities.

Key responsibilities

• Respond to public queries on licensing, regulatory, supervisory and market conduct matters.
• Assess applications, notifications and regulatory filings submitted by financial institutions and their representatives.
• Support supervisory reviews, legislative change initiatives and process improvement projects.
• Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders on supervisory issues, regulatory developments and industry trends.
• Interact with other MAS departments and external parties such as audit firms, industry bodies, foreign regulators and other government agencies.

Required profile

• Good working knowledge and experience in financial institutions conducting financial advisory activities.
• Ability to multi-task and keep to tight timelines in a fast-paced environment.
• Self-motivated and driven; able to manage multiple stakeholder priorities and adapt to change.
• Shortlisting may require a medical declaration and/or further assessment.

Required skills

• Strong audit and analytical skills, with attention to detail and ability to spot broad trends.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
• Advantageous: experience reviewing reports, analysing data and assessing applications or submissions.
