Deputy/Assistant Director, Monetary & Domestic Markets Management

About the role

The Monetary & Domestic Markets Management Department (MDD) conducts market operations to implement the Monetary Authority of Singapore's monetary policy and acts as the fiscal agent of the Singapore Government. Working in a tight-knit team of high-performing officers, you will carry out foreign exchange intervention, money market operations and Singapore Government Securities issuance, gather market intelligence and update ministers and senior management. Depending on your team, you may also lead projects on monetary management, domestic markets or markets information infrastructure.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct foreign exchange intervention to keep the Singapore dollar within its policy band, and money market operations to manage banking system liquidity
• Issue Singapore Government Securities
• Gather market intelligence and provide updates to MAS ministers and senior management
• Work with government ministries, foreign central banks, primary dealers and other market participants on projects such as:
• Enhancing foreign exchange and liquidity management operations, including readiness for intervention and lender of last resort functions
• Growing the sovereign bond market, participating in bond issuances and exploring greater retail access to Singapore Government Securities
• Developing systems and data analytics solutions and redesigning processes to improve operations

Required profile

• Energetic, keen to learn, with an interest in macroeconomics, financial markets or monetary policy
• Team player with a strong commitment to public service
• Analytical and detail-oriented, with a strong grasp of numerical concepts
• Good writing, communication and presentation skills; takes initiative and is self-driven
• Singapore citizen; no prior work experience or economics/finance degree required, as training is provided on the job
• Willingness to monitor foreign exchange markets overnight periodically and to handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
