Director, APAC Head of Sanctions

About the role

We are seeking an experienced and highly credible Director to lead the APAC sanctions compliance framework from our Singapore hub. This senior leadership position shapes and executes the region’s sanctions strategy, strengthens controls and provides trusted advice to business, compliance and executive stakeholders on complex regulatory requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement the APAC sanctions compliance strategy, ensuring alignment with regulatory requirements, internal policies and business objectives.
• Serve as the senior sanctions advisor to business leaders, compliance partners and control functions across APAC.
• Interpret complex sanctions laws, regulations and regulatory announcements, translating them into clear business guidance.
• Design, implement and enhance sanctions controls, conduct risk assessments, control reviews and gap analyses, and recommend improvements.
• Partner with senior stakeholders to develop remediation plans and ensure timely resolution of identified issues.
• Lead sanctions governance, metrics and reporting, including monitoring key risk indicators and escalating material issues.
• Maintain relationships with regulators and government authorities to support effective engagement.
• Oversee sanctions training and awareness programmes and support internal reviews, examinations and audits.
• Manage and mentor the APAC Sanctions team, driving continuous improvement through projects and programmes.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in sanctions compliance and regulatory risk management within the APAC region.
• Strong regulatory judgment and ability to influence senior stakeholders in a complex organization.
• Proven track record of developing and executing compliance strategies and controls.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to translate complex regulations into actionable guidance.
• Leadership experience managing and developing a compliance team.

Required skills

• Deep knowledge of international sanctions regimes and related regulations.
• Expertise in risk assessment, control design and remediation planning.
• Experience interacting with regulators and conducting compliance audits.
