Distinguished Engineer, Architecture & Engineering Excellence

About the role

Grab is Southeast Asia's leading superapp. Its Tech Strategy team defines the long-term technology goals and growth strategy, working directly with Co-Founders and Senior Technology Leadership. As a Distinguished Engineer focused on Architecture and Engineering Excellence, you will be a technical authority and advisor to the CTO and Heads of Engineering, ensuring the Engineering and Data Science organizations have the architectural foundation, engineering rigor and culture needed to deliver systems at massive global scale, with efficiency and reliability. The role covers the overall Grab Tech organization.

Key responsibilities

• Set the Grab-wide technical vision: lead the definition and promotion of a shared technical vision across Grab, pioneering new technical spaces and shaping long-term technical strategy.
• Solve complex, cross-domain problems: resolve technical trade-offs across Super-Tech Families and areas such as data engineering, software design and infrastructure.
• Develop company-wide coding principles, quality and standards, and lead the shift toward an automation-first mindset.
• Act as a hands-on leader: design and implement core components, or act as Guide and Sponsor for multi-quarter projects so they are architecturally sound.
• Mentor the next generation of engineers, including formal mentoring for Principal and Senior Principal Engineers, and represent engineering expertise in industry forums.
• Identify and fix architectural issues that reduce coupling and improve productivity and stability, and contribute hands-on to mission-critical applications or libraries.
• Map architecture to ambiguous business problems, and lead a quality risk analysis and mitigation plan.
• Act as tie-breaker on difficult trade-offs and support Heads of Engineering on cross-organization issues.

Required profile

• Industry-recognized expertise in a chosen technical specialization, with proven ability to influence outcomes at the highest level of the organization.
• Experience representing the company at the industry level and influencing technology decisions and investments.
• A self-starter comfortable with ambiguity, able to challenge the status quo and perform under pressure.
• Technically fearless, able to clarify complexity, and pragmatic enough to balance trade-offs with a long-term view.

Required skills

• Active contribution to an industry-recognized application, library or coding standard, or defining coding principles and quality at a Grab level.
• Ability to deliver solutions for large-scale, systemic or technically nuanced problems.
• Managing the roadmap for stability, scalability, security or cloud costs.
