Engineer / Senior Engineer (Civil Engineering Innovation)

About the role

This role sits in the Civil Design & Innovation team, which researches, develops and implements innovative and sustainable civil engineering solutions in HDB estates. Work centres on water sustainability and civil infrastructure projects, managed from design and construction through testing, completion and handover, and includes initiating and managing research and innovation projects.

Key responsibilities

• Manage water sustainability and civil infrastructure projects from design and construction through testing, completion and handover, monitoring progress and resolving site and technical issues.
• Review C&S designs, drawings, technical and authority submissions, and work with consultants and contractors to ensure compliance with project requirements.
• Manage key project and contractual matters, including progress claims, variations, outstanding works, inspections, as-built documentation and project close-out.
• Support performance monitoring and post-implementation evaluation, applying lessons learnt to improve specifications and future deployment.
• Initiate and manage R&D and innovation projects, from proposing solutions to test-bedding, validation and practical implementation.
• Explore emerging solutions such as AI, automation and robotics, sustainable roads and pavements, low-embodied-carbon materials and water sustainability.
• Collaborate with research institutions, industry partners and Town Councils to develop, test and adopt solutions against measurable KPIs.

Required profile

• Civil and Structural Engineering or a related discipline, with preferably at least 5 years of relevant experience in civil/infrastructure engineering and project management.
• Good practical civil engineering knowledge and experience managing infrastructure works, including design and technical reviews, authority submissions, construction, testing and commissioning, contract administration and handover.
• Advantageous: drainage and water infrastructure, roads and driveways, geotechnical works or works within existing developments.
• Advantageous: experience or strong interest in R&D in automation, robotics, AI, low-embodied-carbon materials and sustainable infrastructure.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, independent issue resolution, and strong communication and stakeholder and contractor management skills.
