Executive / Senior Executive, Teaching Laboratory

About the role

The School of Biological Sciences at Nanyang Technological University (NTU) is looking for a motivated Executive / Senior Executive to support the planning, preparation and smooth operation of undergraduate teaching laboratories. Entry-level candidates are welcome to apply.

Key responsibilities

• Support the planning, preparation and delivery of undergraduate laboratory practical sessions, liaising with course coordinators on requirements, schedules and safety.
• Prepare reagents, consumables, specimens and equipment, set up and calibrate equipment, and brief Teaching Assistants on procedures and safety.
• Provide safety and technical support to students, run trial protocols, troubleshoot issues and ensure experiments are reproducible.
• Assist with teaching laboratory budgets, procure consumables, chemicals and equipment, maintain procurement and inventory records, and support inter-department asset tracking.
• Keep laboratories clean and organised, perform routine equipment checks, coordinate servicing and repairs, monitor stock levels and report infrastructure defects.
• Store chemicals and biological materials safely, update chemical inventories, oversee safe waste disposal, reinforce safety practices, take part in emergency preparedness and prepare risk assessments.
• Provide administrative support for teaching lab operations and assist with school events and outreach.

Required profile

• Diploma in Life Sciences or a related discipline; entry-level candidates are welcome.
• Relevant experience in a teaching or research laboratory, preferably in higher education, is an advantage.
• Good organisational, communication and interpersonal skills, able to work independently and in teams.
• Adaptable, proactive, detail-oriented and able to identify and solve operational issues.

Required skills

• Basic knowledge of laboratory operations, reagent preparation and laboratory housekeeping.
• Familiarity with molecular biology, biochemistry, cell biology and mammalian/insect cell culture is preferred.
• Proficiency with biological safety cabinets, centrifuges, compound microscopes and pH meters.
• Experience in data recording, analysis and presentation is an advantage.
