Floor and Wall Tile Setter (Tiler)

About the role

The Floor and Wall Tile Setter (Tiler) is responsible for installing high‑quality tile finishes on both floors and walls in residential, commercial and industrial projects. Working closely with site supervisors, the tiler ensures that every tile is placed accurately, aligned perfectly and finished to the required standards.

Key responsibilities

• Align and straighten tiles using levels, squares and straightedges.
• Determine and implement optimal layouts to achieve desired patterns.
• Cut and shape tiles around obstacles and into odd spaces using hand and power cutting tools.
• Finish joints and wipe excess grout with a damp sponge.
• Apply mortar, position tiles and press or tap with a trowel to affix them.
• Mix, apply and spread plaster, concrete, mortar, cement, mastic, glue or other adhesives using brush, trowel and screed.
• Prepare cost and labor estimates based on time and material calculations.
• Measure and mark surfaces to be tiled, following blueprints.
• Level concrete and allow it to dry before tiling.
• Build underbeds and install anchor bolts, wires and brackets.
