Food Inspector – Quality Control

About the role

The Food Inspector is responsible for ensuring that all incoming and outgoing food products meet the company’s quality and safety standards. The role involves visual inspections, technical testing, and documentation to maintain compliance with HACCP and ISO requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Perform initial visual inspections of incoming shipments for freshness, decay, pests, and physical damage.
• Conduct compliance checks on labeling, weight, quantity, and expiry dates.
• Monitor cold‑chain temperatures and record data for each shipment.
• Execute technical assessments such as Brix measurement, firmness testing, and sizing using refractometers and calipers.
• Carry out destructive sampling (cut tests) to evaluate internal product quality.
• Compare product attributes against internal specifications and isolate non‑conforming items.
• Perform final pre‑dispatch checks on outgoing stock and assist in internal quality‑monitoring trials.
• Maintain accurate digital or manual logs of all inspection results and ensure adherence to HACCP protocols.

Required skills

• Operation of refractometers for Brix testing.
• Use of calipers for precise sizing measurements.
• Conducting firmness and texture assessments.
• Recording and interpreting cold‑chain temperature data.
• Understanding of HACCP and ISO documentation procedures.
