Gen AI Engineer (AI Central FDE)

About the role

NCS, an AI tech services company and subsidiary of the Singtel Group, is hiring an AI Engineer in Singapore. The role sits within NCS AI Central's Forward Deployed Engineering (FDE) model, which takes AI solutions from proof-of-concept through to hardened production systems. You will design and run rapid experiments on Gen AI models, prompts and retrieval strategies to give the squad fast, evidence-based answers on model performance, mainly in fast-moving FDE engagements (POCs, pilots).

Key responsibilities

• Experimentation and evaluation: understand the business problem and POC objectives, design experiments on model configurations, prompts or retrieval strategies, analyse outputs for quality and accuracy, and help define ground-truth benchmarks.
• Data preparation: profile and clean sample datasets and build simple pipelines for data ingestion, prompt construction and output evaluation.
• Gen AI and agentic techniques: work with foundation models on AWS Bedrock, Google Vertex AI or Azure AI Foundry, apply China-origin models (DeepSeek, Qwen, GLM), use agentic frameworks such as AWS Strands or LangGraph, and apply prompt engineering and RAG design.
• FDE coverage: during FDE engagements give the team fast go/no-go signals; during development and maintenance support ongoing tuning and monitoring.
• Collaborate with developers, product managers, SMEs and data scientists, document experiments clearly, and advise on feasibility and trade-offs.

Required profile

• 4+ years of hands-on AI/ML or Gen AI engineering experience; the role is offered at two levels (AI Engineer and Senior AI Engineer) with different scope and seniority.
• Understanding of Gen AI concepts (tokenization, embeddings, RAG, prompting, evaluation).
• Analytical mindset and good data wrangling skills.

Required skills

• Familiarity with at least one major cloud AI service (AWS Bedrock, Google Vertex AI or Azure AI Foundry).
• Working knowledge of China AI models (DeepSeek, Qwen, GLM) is a strong plus.
• Agentic orchestration frameworks such as AWS Strands or LangGraph.
• Basic Python and Gen AI tools (model SDKs, vector databases).
• Preferred: Gen AI Leader or ML Engineer certification, LLMOps exposure, fine-tuning familiarity, and exposure to Singapore Government GCC/HCC environments.
