HPC Systems Manager (AI Systems)

About the role

KLA, a global leader in electronics for the semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem, is looking for a System Design Engineering Manager specializing in AI systems and High-Performance Computing (HPC). The role leads a team of engineers and system architects in building the platform for deep learning (DL) training and inference, and defines the technical vision and roadmap for AI systems within the HPC domain.

Key responsibilities

• Lead a team of engineers and system architects to develop the DL training and inference platform.
• Define the technical vision, strategy and roadmap for DL/AI systems in the HPC domain.
• Design and optimize AI infrastructure with hardware and software teams, integrating AI workloads with existing HPC clusters.
• Manage GPU-based clusters and scale AI infrastructure for large-scale training and inference workloads.
• Analyze bottlenecks to improve performance and benchmark AI models and algorithms on HPC clusters.
• Work with product managers, researchers and stakeholders to align AI initiatives with business goals, and report technical progress, risks and opportunities to senior leadership.

Required profile

• Proven track record managing engineering teams, preferably in AI, HPC or related fields.
• Ability to mentor and develop team members.
• Excellent decision-making, problem-solving and conflict-resolution skills.
• Effective communication with technical and non-technical stakeholders, including presenting technical concepts to executive leadership.

Required skills

• Familiarity with AI frameworks (TensorFlow, PyTorch, etc.) and HPC tools (Slurm, OpenMPI, etc.).
• Strong understanding of GPU architectures, CUDA programming and parallel computing.
• Knowledge of containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) and cloud-based AI deployments.
