Lead Software Engineer, Backend

About the role

Grab For Business builds the solutions used by enterprise customers and employees to access Grab offerings such as ride hailing, food deliveries and gift cards. This Lead Software Engineer, Backend role works with experienced engineers to develop backend services and ensure the robustness of the API system used by several mobile and web apps. The engineer reports to an engineering manager based in Singapore and works onsite in Singapore.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the design and operation of scalable, maintainable and reliable backend services and platform components.
• Turn product and requirements into technical solutions, driving design discussions and architectural trade-offs.
• Oversee high-quality code through testing, performance, observability standards and rigorous code reviews.
• Partner with product, business, mobile, web, data and infrastructure teams to solve end-to-end user and system challenges.
• Improve service reliability through monitoring, proactive system health fixes, incident response and root cause analysis.
• Take part in the on-call rotation and own production incidents.
• Coach engineers, run design reviews and share knowledge.
• Guide improvements in engineering processes, developer productivity and system health.

Required profile

• Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 7+ years of software development experience with a track record of delivering solutions across teams.
• Proficiency in Go, writing idiomatic, testable and maintainable code.
• Hands-on experience writing and operating backend microservices.
• Understanding of how developers use version control and CI/CD to ship software.
