Lecturer / Senior Lecturer - Outdoor Education

About the role

The School of Sports and Health at Republic Polytechnic is recruiting a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer for the Diploma in Outdoor Education (DOE) team. The team aims to be a recognised thought leader and trusted partner in research, training and development within outdoor education, recreation and inclusive practice.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver PET and CET modules in outdoor education, including climbing and abseiling, kayaking, challenge course management, land-based skills, supervision, instruction, youth outreach, environmental studies, expedition management and more.
• Mentor students and act as a role model for their academic, personal and professional growth.
• Develop, review and improve the curriculum to match industry practice, applied research, safety standards and emerging trends.
• Design and run experiential, student-centred learning that builds technical competence, confidence, leadership and reflective practice.
• Uphold safety, risk management and operational standards in practical lessons, field learning and expeditions.
• Build partnerships with industry, community and professional bodies.

Required profile

• Relevant qualification in outdoor education, sports, recreation, education, health or a related field, with at least 5 years of industry experience.
• Good written and oral communication, time management and organisational skills.
• Strong passion for outdoor education, teamwork and problem-solving.
• Preferably holds certifications such as Kayak Level 3 Coaching, Climbing Instructor Category 2, Abseiling Level 3, and First Aid/CPR AED.
• Experience designing programmes for people with disabilities, older adults or children is an advantage.
