Legal & Compliance Executive (Data Protection)

About the role

Singapore Airlines is hiring for the Legal, Compliance & Secretariat Department in its Corporate Planning Division. The successful candidate supports the Legal & Compliance (Data Protection) Team and carries out data privacy compliance work for the SIA group of companies, especially under the Singapore Personal Data Protection Act and global privacy laws, and advises on contentious matters involving SIA. The role suits either a specialist personal data privacy lawyer or a general commercial litigation lawyer with data privacy experience or qualifications.

Key responsibilities

• Advise business units on personal data protection matters, including legal risks and implications of business decisions, and propose solutions where possible.
• Work with business units to evaluate, implement and monitor internal data protection policies, procedures, controls and remediation measures.
• Promote and update the personal data protection compliance programme periodically.
• Manage and respond to data subject access requests and privacy-related complaints or disputes.
• Manage actual and potential civil litigation in Singapore and overseas, including privacy or IP cases, internal reviews and investigations, and outside counsel.
• Advise on passenger claims and on compliance with production orders or requests from law enforcement and regulatory authorities.

Required profile

• A law degree from a reputable university in Singapore or a Commonwealth jurisdiction.
• At least two years of legal experience in a reputable law firm or in-house.
• Excellent drafting skills.
• Ability to work independently and as a team player, and to communicate effectively in a dynamic environment within SIA and its unlisted subsidiaries.
• Positive attitude to learning and enthusiasm to excel.
• Admission to the Singapore Bar is not required.

Experience in cybersecurity, aviation or cross-border litigation, and/or intellectual property is an added advantage. Only shortlisted candidates will be notified.
