Legal Counsel – Governance (12‑Month Contract)

About the role

The Legal Counsel – Governance will join a global financial institution’s corporate and institutional banking team in Singapore on a 12‑month fixed‑term basis. Working closely with business, credit and compliance partners, the counsel will provide legal advice on banking and financing transactions, support strategic initiatives and ensure compliance with regulatory frameworks.

Key responsibilities

• Advise on lending, financing and client‑related matters across corporate and institutional banking.
• Review, draft and negotiate transactional documentation, including cross‑border agreements.
• Collaborate with business, credit and compliance teams to identify and mitigate legal and regulatory risks.
• Support digital, data and business transformation projects from a legal perspective.
• Monitor changes in banking regulations and advise on necessary policy updates.

Required profile

• Qualified lawyer with 5‑8 years post‑qualification experience.
• Background in banking, finance or regulated financial services environment.
• Strong understanding of lending structures, transaction documentation and associated legal risks.
• Excellent commercial judgment and ability to balance business objectives with compliance requirements.
• Proven stakeholder management and cross‑functional collaboration skills.
