About the role

The Manager (Tours & Volunteer Management) will shape the gallery’s tour programme while building a vibrant volunteer community. This strategic and operational role ensures engaging visitor experiences through well‑designed tours and a high‑performing volunteer workforce.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement a comprehensive tour strategy aligned with visitor experience and audience‑engagement goals.
• Review, optimise and innovate tour formats, content and delivery to improve accessibility and relevance.
• Plan, schedule and manage tour capacity for daily operations and special exhibitions.
• Oversee recruitment, onboarding, training and development of volunteers, ensuring they are equipped to deliver quality experiences.
• Design and execute volunteer engagement programmes, recognition initiatives and communication channels.
• Collaborate with curatorial, programmes and learning teams to create training materials and continuous learning opportunities.
• Deploy volunteers across tours and programmes, monitoring performance and visitor feedback for continuous improvement.

Required profile

• Proven experience in managing tours, visitor programmes or volunteer initiatives, preferably within a cultural institution.
• Strong strategic thinking with the ability to translate objectives into actionable plans.
• Excellent stakeholder collaboration skills, working across curatorial, programmes and learning teams.
• Demonstrated ability to build inclusive, diverse communities and foster long‑term volunteer engagement.
• Organisational and project‑management capabilities to handle scheduling, capacity planning and performance monitoring.
