Manufacturing Equipment Engineer 1

About the role

Illumina is hiring a Manufacturing Equipment Engineer 1 to provide technical leadership in sustaining smart manufacturing equipment in a high-volume consumables production environment. The engineer defines and carries out maintenance across optical, mechanical, electrical and fluidics systems, improves equipment uptime and reliability, and may train and mentor technicians.

Key responsibilities

• Complete required training (cGMP, safety, work instructions) and follow cGMP, quality, safety and work instruction requirements
• Perform preventive maintenance and implement repairs with some supervision, and identify and update critical spare parts in SAP
• Participate in and lead improvement initiatives, including 6S, and manage work instructions for equipment maintenance
• Lead investigations and write reports, and guide team members
• Mentor technicians, help them develop skills, and develop on-the-job training programmes, including PLC and automation troubleshooting
• Support the shift to meet daily production targets and KPIs, and coordinate activities based on production, equipment and supply needs
• Collect and interpret operational data to identify trends supporting equipment efficiency
• Identify opportunities to automate manual processes to improve quality, cycle time and cost

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Electronics, Mechanical or Mechatronics Engineering with 0-2 years of manufacturing experience, or Diploma with 6+ years, or NTC/NiTEC with 9+ years (shift lead) or high school with 15+ years shift lead experience
• Experience in a GMP-controlled manufacturing environment
• Ability to work 12-hour rotating shifts (day 0800-2015, night 2000-0815) with monthly day-to-night rotation, and to lift up to 15 kg
• Able to distinguish component colours visually and to work in noisy and chemical environments with PPE

Required skills

• Advanced understanding of electrical, electronics, mechanical and pneumatic systems
• PLC troubleshooting (e.g. Beckhoff or Allen Bradley)
• Compliance with cGMP, quality and work safety instructions
