Manufacturing Equipment Engineer 2

About the role

Illumina is hiring a Manufacturing Equipment Engineer 2 to provide technical leadership in sustaining smart manufacturing equipment within a high-volume consumables production environment. The role covers preventive maintenance of optical, mechanical, electrical and fluidics systems, training and mentoring technicians and engineer I team members, and leading continuous improvement and incident investigations.

Key responsibilities

• Complete required training (cGMP, safety, work instructions) and follow cGMP, quality, safety and work instruction requirements
• Perform preventive maintenance and implement repairs on equipment and systems with broad supervision
• Identify and update critical spare parts in SAP and maintain safety stock levels
• Lead improvement initiatives, coach team members on continuous improvement (e.g. 6S) and manage maintenance work instructions
• Lead incident investigations, write technical reports and guide team members
• Mentor team members to meet production KPIs and corporate targets, and support the shift to meet daily production targets
• Develop OJT training programmes for technicians and guide them on PLC and automation troubleshooting
• Analyse operational data to improve equipment efficiency and look for ways to automate manual processes with automation experts
• Work 12-hour rotating shifts (day 0800-2015, night 2000-0815) with monthly day-to-night rotation, and be agreeable to normal shifts when required

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Electronics, Mechanical or Mechatronics, or diploma in the same fields
• 2+ years of experience with a degree, or 8+ years with a diploma, in a manufacturing/production environment
• Experience in a GMP-controlled manufacturing environment
• Project management skills, good discipline, integrity and attention to detail
• Able to work in noisy and chemical environments with PPE, lift up to 15 kg, and distinguish component colours visually

• PLC (Beckhoff, Allen Bradley), HMI/SCADA, sensors, actuators and industrial communications
• Software programming in Python, SQL or C#
• Electrical, electronics, mechanical and pneumatic knowledge
• Design of automatic control systems, troubleshooting of PLCs and HMI systems, and engineering drawings
