Manufacturing Test Engineer

About the role

OpenAI’s Hardware organization is building AI‑native silicon and system‑level solutions. The Manufacturing Test Engineer will own and drive the test strategy, development and execution for complex AI hardware systems from early development through volume production.

Key responsibilities

• Define and drive manufacturing test strategy for boards, trays and system‑level assemblies across EVT, DVT, PVT and production ramp.
• Develop and manage test coverage for ICT/structural test, board‑level functional test, tray‑level integration test and system‑level manufacturing test.
• Partner with electrical, system and diagnostic/software teams to define test requirements, review scripts and validate failure isolation.
• Translate engineering requirements into scalable test plans, approve pass/fail criteria and release gates while balancing coverage, test time and cost.
• Collaborate with contract manufacturers, JDMs and equipment vendors to qualify test stations, fixtures, automation and operator procedures.
• Review test results, yield trends and failure pareto data to drive corrective actions and continuous improvement.

Required profile

• 5+ years experience developing and deploying manufacturing test solutions for complex electronics or high‑performance compute hardware.
• Strong understanding of board‑level and system‑level test methodologies such as ICT, boundary‑scan, functional, burn‑in and stress testing.
• Hands‑on debugging skills using test data, BMC/host logs, power & thermal telemetry, schematics and lab measurements.
• Ability to work cross‑functionally with hardware, diagnostics, manufacturing, quality and supplier teams.
