Materials Project Manager

About the role

Applied Materials, a global leader in materials science and engineering solutions for semiconductors and advanced displays, is hiring a Materials Project Manager in Singapore. The role covers forecasting and communicating engineering, materials and manufacturing requirements to suppliers, sourcing, supplier risk assessment, materials change control and cost management, and coordinating the materials core team.

Key responsibilities

• Forecast and communicate engineering, materials and manufacturing requirements to suppliers, and provide input to outsourcing decisions through make versus buy analysis.
• Coordinate demand signals through MRP to minimize inventory exposure, and form the Materials Core Team, coordinating product development deliverables through matrix management of buyers, planners and production control.
• Under supervision, create, release and update the project materials strategy, and collaborate with engineering to interpret engineering requirements.
• Assist in supplier price and delivery negotiations and, under direct supervision, negotiate contracts; use the preferred supplier selection and assessment process and complete supplier risk assessments on critical and unique parts.
• Monitor supplier performance on delivery, quality and cost, coordinate source selection, specification creation and price negotiation, and execute the commercialization (transition) materials plan.
• Manage the materials change control process, meet cost objectives, resolve quality issues, generate and publish Key Process Indicators, and track total landed cost targets.
• Work with engineering to identify critical and long-lead parts and inspection requirements, assist in supplier and commodity roadmaps, and use value analysis on build-to-print components for Should Cost analysis.
• MEDIATE and partner with quality and engineering teams to resolve supplier quality issues, escalate to Commodity Business Managers when needed, and lead purchasing activities with manufacturing and engineering to keep inventory at planned levels.
• Support P1/P2/P3 shortages for manufacturing builds, represent the team in shortage war rooms and Singapore production meetings, and act as primary decision maker for Singapore versus Austin priorities during shortages.
• Negotiate costs including MCOGS reduction, liability exposure and expediting/rework, define business processes, drive continuous improvement, simplify the procurement function, and help develop ISO documents for purchasing.
• Recommend new suppliers with engineering and MPM or SCM, issue RFQs, analyze proposals, negotiate prices and delivery, and issue or adjust purchase orders in a timely manner.
• Pull and read part specifications and engineering drawings, and suggest alternative solutions or BOM changes with manufacturing engineering.

Required profile

• Conceptual and practical expertise in the own discipline and basic knowledge of related disciplines.
• Knowledge of best practices and how the area integrates with others, awareness of the competition and market differentiators.
• Ability to solve complex problems, exercise judgment from multiple sources of information, and act as a resource for colleagues with less experience, possibly leading small projects.
• Ability to explain difficult or sensitive information and build consensus.
