Medical Laboratory Technologist - Microbiology (Contract)

About the role

NUHS is hiring a Medical Laboratory Technologist in Laboratory Medicine (Microbiology) on a contract basis. The role performs and interprets diagnostic procedures and carries out related laboratory activities to deliver quality laboratory service to internal and external customers.

Key responsibilities

• Receive and, when necessary, supervise the rejection of unsuitable laboratory specimens
• Use the Laboratory Information System for order entry, result entry, collation, certification and querying
• Perform procedures according to laboratory protocols and report critical values to the right people
• Record and interpret quality control results and take corrective action
• Undertake simple preventative maintenance and troubleshooting of instruments, and comply with inventory management
• Resolve customer queries and report adverse incidents to the supervisor
• Stay current with new instrumentation and techniques through workshops and in-service education, and conduct in-service education classes
• Assist with staff roster planning, cover Senior Medical Technologist duties when needed, and coach trainees and new staff
• Carry out internal audits, assist with new test methodology evaluation and protocol updates, and take part in project teams
• Undertake backup procedures during emergencies such as power loss or system crashes, and help with basic administrative work
• Comply with good laboratory practice, the Laboratory Safety Manual and workplace etiquette

Required profile

• BSc or equivalent in Medical Laboratory Science
• 1-2 years of clinical laboratory experience preferred, with good or excellent performance
