Postdoctoral Researcher – Maritime Studies

About the role

The School of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Nanyang Technological University seeks a motivated Postdoctoral Researcher/Research Associate to advance research in maritime transport, decarbonisation, and digitalisation. The appointment is for one year with the possibility of extension based on performance and funding availability.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct cutting‑edge research on maritime transport systems, decarbonisation strategies, and digital technologies.
• Develop and apply methodologies for ship data processing, performance analysis, and machine‑learning models.
• Publish results in high‑impact peer‑reviewed journals and present at international conferences.
• Collaborate with internal and external researchers on joint projects and deliverables.
• Prepare project reports, deliverables, and contribute to grant proposals.

Required profile

• Minimum Master’s degree in maritime transport, marine technology, computer science, or a related discipline.
• Strong record of publications in reputable journals or conferences.
• Excellent written and spoken English for data analysis and stakeholder communication.
• Effective oral communication and teamwork abilities.

Required skills

• Programming in Python, Matlab, and C++.
• Experience with machine‑learning algorithms, including deep learning and reinforcement learning.
• Proficiency in ship data processing and ship performance analysis.
