Principal Power Technology Researcher

About the role

Flex is looking for a Principal Power Technology Researcher based in Kallang, Singapore. The role covers fundamental research into technologies that will form the basis of future high-power products introduced four to six years from now, including research and prototyping of power system technologies, proof-of-concept designs, design simulations, patent applications, whitepapers and presentation materials. It involves close collaboration with the company's Advanced Technology teams.

Key responsibilities

• Identify new technologies that can be perfected for the Advanced Technology teams, such as medium voltage AC to high voltage DC solid-state transformer systems, isolated DC-DC converters with 50:1 to 100:1 conversion ratios, and efficient three-phase AC input systems with high power density and good EMC performance.
• Work across functional teams to assess whether proposed technology meets product specifications, cost targets and schedules.
• Provide technology leadership and advise on solving technical problems in research and prototyping.
• Support design and issue resolution during the handoff between the Singapore Research Centre and the Advanced Technology teams.

Required profile

• Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or power electronics; a PhD is a plus.
• 5 years' experience with a Master's or 3 years with a PhD in power system research or design (e.g., solid-state transformers, medium-voltage rectifiers, DC-DC power modules, high-efficiency AC/DC systems); independent project design leadership experience.
• Solid-state transformer development experience is a plus.

Required skills

• Strong power electronics power supply design knowledge, including topologies such as Totem-pole PFC, Vienna PFC, T-NPC, ANPC, flyback, LLC, CLLC and DAB.
• Familiarity with engineering tools such as MatchCAD, SIMetrix, PLECS and PADs (or equivalent).
