Principal R&D Hardware Design Engineer (Power)

About the role

Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) is hiring a Principal R&D Hardware Design Engineer (Power) for its networking business, based onsite at an HPE office in Singapore. The role is for a power design expert who leads power architecture and circuit design for high-performance networking platforms, with designs shipped at global scale. It suits engineers who want to mentor others and influence power strategy across product generations.

Key responsibilities

• Own power architecture and power distribution strategies for complex, high-performance networking platforms across multiple product generations.
• Design and optimize AC-DC and DC-DC power solutions, including voltage regulators, multiphase converters, hot-swap circuits, protection circuits, sequencing, monitoring and control.
• Translate system requirements, load profiles, transient behavior, thermal limits, reliability targets and cost constraints into robust power designs.
• Drive component selection and design trade-offs across efficiency, density, transient response, noise, thermal performance, reliability, availability, manufacturability and cost.
• Partner with system architects, board designers, signal and power integrity engineers, mechanical and thermal teams, firmware, validation, manufacturing, suppliers and program leadership across global sites.
• Lead power design reviews, simulation, schematic development, bring-up, characterization, compliance testing and root-cause investigations from concept through production.
• Establish power design standards, reference circuits, modeling practices, derating guidelines and reusable solutions.
• Mentor senior engineers and guide technical decision-making.

Required profile

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electronic Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a closely related discipline.
• 10+ years of experience designing power circuits and power distribution systems for complex electronic products or hardware platforms.
• Proven track record of solving ambiguous, high-impact power design, bring-up, validation and field issues.
• Recognized technical leader who influences power design direction beyond a single team or project.
• Preferred: ability to work independently at Principal level, strong cross-organizational influence, and exceptional communication and mentoring skills.

Required skills

• Deep expertise in power conversion and distribution, including DC-DC converters, multiphase regulators, hot-swap and protection circuits, sequencing and telemetry.
• Hands-on experience with power simulation, measurement, validation and characterization (efficiency, stability, ripple, noise, transient response, thermal performance, fault behavior).
• Schematic and board-level design using Cadence OrCAD and Allegro, with strong understanding of PCB layout for high-current and noise-sensitive power circuits.
