Project Officer – Surface Engineering & Heat Exchangers

About the role

The School of Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering at NTU seeks a Project Officer to support research and development in surface engineering and heat exchangers for energy‑efficient thermal systems. The role involves developing engineered surfaces, characterising materials, and evaluating heat‑transfer performance in laboratory and practical settings.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and optimise engineered surfaces and surface‑treatment processes to enhance thermal performance.
• Design, fabricate and characterise surface‑engineered components and prototypes.
• Plan and conduct thermal‑fluid experiments, operate test rigs and analyse performance data.
• Support scale‑up of laboratory processes to larger‑scale prototypes and field validation with industry partners.
• Prepare technical reports, research papers and presentations.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Manufacturing Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or related field.
• Basic knowledge of materials science, heat transfer and surface chemistry; exposure to two‑phase flow is an advantage.
• Ability to work independently, manage multiple research tasks and collaborate in a multidisciplinary team.

Required skills

• Surface engineering, chemical processing, electrochemical techniques.
• Material characterisation techniques such as optical microscopy, SEM, XRD, thermal analysis and mechanical testing.
• Experimental design, data acquisition and data analysis for thermal performance evaluation.
• CAD software and engineering design tools; experience with design for additive manufacturing is a plus.
