Research Fellow – Ultrafast 2D Optical Spectroscopy

About the role

The School of Chemistry, Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology at NTU Singapore seeks a Research Fellow to develop and apply multidimensional optical spectroscopy for studying complex chemical, biological and nanoscience systems.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain, operate, and troubleshoot ultrafast laser systems, including regenerative amplifiers, white‑light generators and a 2D optical spectrometer.
• Design, conduct, and analyse experiments using ultrafast transient absorption and coherent two‑dimensional electronic spectroscopy (2DES).
• Perform computational simulations of ultrafast dynamics and energy‑transfer processes in biological systems.
• Prepare and draft research manuscripts for peer‑reviewed journals.
• Guide and mentor PhD, postgraduate and undergraduate students in research activities.

Required profile

• PhD in Chemistry, Physics, Biophysics or a related discipline.
• Demonstrated research experience in ultrafast nonlinear optical spectroscopy with first‑author publications.
• Strong knowledge of laser optical techniques and hands‑on experience with time‑resolved spectroscopic methods.
• Established publication record in optics, chemical physics or related fields.

Required skills

• Operation, maintenance and troubleshooting of ultrafast laser systems (regenerative amplifier, OPA, white‑light generator).
• Expertise in ultrafast transient absorption spectroscopy and coherent 2D electronic spectroscopy.
• Computational simulation of ultrafast dynamics and energy‑transfer processes.
• Experience with ultrafast optical pulse shapers (highly desirable).
