Purchasing Engineer

About the role

The Purchasing Engineer will lead supplier sourcing and procurement activities for machinery sector projects and production at JL Group Engineering. The role works cross‑functionally to optimise costs, manage contracts and ensure quality compliance.

Key responsibilities

• Source and evaluate suppliers for direct and indirect materials, including specialised mechanical parts, raw metals, electrical components, castings and forgings.
• Analyse supplier quotations, deliver cost assessments and drive cost‑reduction initiatives.
• Develop and negotiate supply agreements covering pricing, MOQ, lead times, payment terms and SLAs.
• Interpret technical drawings, CAD models and Bills of Materials to provide cost data for project costing.
• Collaborate with Engineering, Sales, R&D, production planning and QA on value‑engineering, vendor audits and corrective action plans.
• Establish dual‑sourcing and local backup strategies to mitigate supply risks.
• Maintain accurate procurement records using ERP systems such as SAP MM, Oracle or local MRP.

Required profile

• Diploma or degree in Mechanical Engineering, HVAC or a related discipline.
• Proven purchasing experience in the machinery or manufacturing sector.
• Proficiency in written and spoken English and Mandarin for supplier communication.
• Strong organisational, problem‑solving and commercial negotiation abilities.

Required skills

• SAP MM procurement module.
• Oracle ERP or other MRP systems.
• Ability to interpret CAD models and technical drawings.
• Bills of Materials (BOM) cost analysis.
• Supplier cost assessment and negotiation techniques.
