Quantity Surveyor – Construction Cost Management

About the role

The Quantity Surveyor will support the project team by managing all post‑contract commercial activities, from cost control to subcontract administration. This role ensures that project budgets are adhered to, variations are properly documented, and payments are processed efficiently throughout the project lifecycle.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out quantity take‑offs from drawings and specifications, verify against Bills of Quantities and prepare detailed costing schedules using Excel.
• Review contracts, drawings, specifications and Letters of Award to identify obligations, risks and deviations.
• Administer subcontract agreements and purchase orders, negotiate commercial terms and evaluate subcontractor progress claims.
• Monitor project costs against approved budgets, prepare and negotiate Variation Orders, and maintain records supporting all cost adjustments.
• Prepare, submit and follow up on monthly progress claims, liaise with clients and consultants for certification, and track payment certificates to safeguard cash flow.
• Negotiate and finalise final accounts, ensure all contractual close‑out documentation is submitted, and support resolution of outstanding commercial matters.
• Maintain comprehensive records of contractual correspondence, quotations, claims and payment certificates.

Required profile

• Strong understanding of construction contracts, tender documents and commercial procedures.
• Ability to interpret drawings, specifications and Bills of Quantities accurately.
• Experience in managing subcontractor agreements, progress claims and variation orders.
• Excellent attention to detail and commercial awareness to identify cost risks.
• Proven ability to work closely with project managers, site teams and external stakeholders.
