R&D Engineer, Product Development (Fixed-Term Contract)

About the role

Becton, Dickinson and Company (BD), a global medical technology company, is seeking an R&D Engineer for its Product Development team on a 12-month fixed-term contract in Singapore (Tuas). The role gives hands-on experience in medical device development, from concept to commercialization, working with R&D, Manufacturing, Quality, Regulatory and Operations teams. It suits early-career engineers and experienced professionals wanting exposure to a highly regulated medical device environment.

Key responsibilities

• Support new product development projects from concept through commercialization, turning customer, clinical and performance requirements into engineering solutions.
• Design, plan and run experiments to evaluate product performance and design concepts, and analyze technical data with reports and presentations.
• Maintain product specifications, manufacturing specifications and engineering change documentation, and contribute to Design History Files (DHF).
• Take part in design verification, risk assessments and product validation.
• Collaborate with manufacturing teams on molding, assembly, packaging and sterilization, applying Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design-to-Cost principles.
• Document technical findings and potential patent opportunities, and provide technical support to manufacturing and business teams.
• Ensure compliance with ISO 13485, FDA Quality System Regulations and internal processes, and support continuous improvement.
• Travel occasionally as required by project needs.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Biomedical, Materials, Manufacturing, Chemical Engineering or a related discipline.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and ability to manage multiple priorities in cross-functional teams.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
• Ideal for fresh engineering graduates, engineers with 1 to 5 years of experience, or manufacturing/process/product/quality engineers moving into R&D.

Preferred qualifications

• Prior internship or project experience in product development, manufacturing, engineering or medical devices.
• Familiarity with engineering testing, data analysis and technical documentation.
• Understanding of design controls, risk management, ISO 13485 or FDA regulations.
• Experience with CAD, statistical analysis tools or laboratory testing environments.
