Regulatory & Compliance Specialist

About the role

The Regulatory & Compliance Specialist will join Anglo American’s Sales & Trading Legal & Compliance team, supporting the global marketing business with legal, regulatory and compliance risk assessment. The role focuses on delivering a risk‑based compliance programme across new country entries, product approvals and ongoing commercial activities.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct legal research and summarise findings for stakeholders on regulatory queries such as new market entry, product approvals, and compliance risks (bribery, corruption, AML/CTF, sanctions, antitrust, data privacy).
• Assist the Regulatory & Compliance Manager in maintaining a risk‑based compliance framework covering bribery, anti‑trust, AML/CTF, data protection, fraud, and sanctions.
• Perform risk assessments, engage with commercial teams to understand emerging goals, and identify emerging compliance requirements.
• Develop, monitor and test risk‑based controls to ensure effectiveness.
• Support KYC escalations, provide pragmatic advice, and help build a strong compliance culture.
• Prepare legal filings, ensure timely external regulatory obligations, and manage matter files and external counsel instructions.
• Deliver training on regulatory topics and contribute to management reports on legal and compliance matters.

Required profile

• Legal degree or Paralegal qualification (essential).
• Strong analytical and research abilities with experience in regulatory environments.
• Excellent communication skills to interact with internal stakeholders and external counsel.
• Proactive attitude with the ability to identify gaps and implement mitigation strategies.

Required skills

• Knowledge of AML/CTF regulations and anti‑bribery frameworks.
• Understanding of data protection and privacy laws.
• Familiarity with sanctions, trade controls and antitrust legislation.
