Research Assistant (Centre for Research in Pedagogy and Practice)

About the role

The National Institute of Education (NIE) is inviting applications for a Research Assistant on a 23-month contract at its Centre for Research in Pedagogy and Practice (CRPP). The project, titled the Main Study of the CORE 4 Research Programme, investigates the instructional core of teaching and learning across designated subject domains (English Language, English Literature, History, Humanities, Geography, Mathematics and Mother Tongue) in Singapore's primary and secondary classrooms. It is part of a programme that measures and models curriculum and reform initiatives in a representative sample of schools.

Key responsibilities

• Perform literature reviews and write reports
• Collect data through surveys, student artefacts, classroom observations, focus group discussions and interviews, transcribe and analyse qualitative and quantitative data
• Handle project administration such as scheduling, liaising with teachers and preparing materials
• Manage research data and help manage the Network Attached Storage system
• Assist the Principal Investigator in writing papers and publications and creating presentation materials
• Carry out other assignments assigned by the Principal Investigator and co-Principal Investigators

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree, preferably in psychology, social sciences, education or statistics
• Ability to work independently and in a team
• Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
• Good time management and organisational skills

Required skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
• Preferred: SPSS and/or NVivo, experience in classroom observation and video data coding, collating large amounts of video/audio data, NAS storage and website setup
