Research Assistant (Nano-Microplastics)

About the role

The Nanyang Environment and Water Research Institute (NEWRI), part of NTU, is looking for a Research Assistant to support the project Novel approaches for nano-microplastics (NMPs) characterization in water systems in Singapore (NMPWaterSG). The role focuses on detecting nano-microplastics and contributes to establishing standard methods for their detection in Singapore.

Key responsibilities

• Work with the research fellows and assist the principal and co-principal investigators in designing experiments, running them and troubleshooting.
• Follow experimental protocols and carry out on-site sampling of nano-microplastics from different water sources.
• Operate instruments such as tubular furnace, muffle furnace, laser direct infrared (LDIR), Raman, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and pyrolysis-gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (Py-GCMS).
• Process and analyse instrument data.
• Help summarise findings, write progress reports, the final report and scientific recommendations.

Required profile

• B.Eng./B.Sc. in analytical chemistry, environmental engineering, chemistry or a related field.
• Extensive knowledge of chemistry and analytical techniques.
• Good interpersonal, teamwork, report writing and communication skills.
• High motivation, strong sense of responsibility and dedication to completing assigned tasks.
