Research Associate – Hybrid Digital Twin for Steel Structures

About the role

We are seeking a Research Associate in Civil Engineering to advance a hybrid vision‑vibration digital twin for steel structures at NTU’s Centre for Sustainable Built Environment. The role combines simulation, laboratory testing and the development of smart connectors for modular floating breakwaters.

Key responsibilities

• Develop modelling techniques for hybrid digital twins integrating vision and vibration data.
• Fabricate steel building models with controlled corrosion for testing.
• Implement AI and model‑updating methods to calibrate simulations against experimental results.
• Publish research findings in top‑tier journals and present at conferences.
• Write research proposals to secure further funding.
• Mentor undergraduate and graduate students in related projects.

Required profile

• MSc in Civil Engineering or a closely related discipline.
• Minimum 1 year of experience in structural analysis and machine‑learning applications.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and meet strict timelines.

Required skills

• Proficiency in ABAQUS.
• Proficiency in MATLAB.
• Experience with machine learning / artificial intelligence techniques.
• Laboratory testing and experimental setup skills.
• Structural analysis expertise.
